New Canton Reference 9 GS Edition

Canton unveils Reference 9 GS Edition at Norddeutsche HiFi-Tage

With the Reference 9 GS Edition, Canton is presenting a special highlight at the Norddeutsche HiFi-Tage in Hamburg: an exclusive special edition of the popular Reference 9 compact loudspeaker, developed under the direction of company founder Günther Seitz. The Reference 9 GS Edition combines selected technologies and components from Canton’s Reference Alpha flagship series with the compact format of the Reference 9, elevating performance to a new level.

The Reference 9 GS Edition benefits directly from developments introduced with the Reference Alpha models. Central to the design is an exceptionally high-quality crossover network featuring Mundorf MKP capacitors. This refined crossover ensures precise signal processing, exceptionally clean spatial imaging, and a highly detailed, controlled musical presentation, even when paired with revealing electronics.

For high-frequency reproduction, Canton employs its diamond-coated DLC tweeter system (Diamond Like Carbon), first introduced in the Reference Alpha series. The tweeter is combined with a newly developed acoustic lens that functions as both a waveguide and a mechanical air cushion. This design significantly improves efficiency and bandwidth, allowing even the finest musical details to remain clearly audible. The result is a treble response that is airy, natural, and free from coloration.

Signal transfer is handled by a new high-quality single-wiring terminal equipped with gold-plated WBT-nextgen™ binding posts. Designed for purist, audiophile systems, the terminal offers excellent conductivity, high mechanical stability, and long-term contact reliability.

Visually, the Reference 9 GS Edition makes a strong statement of its own. The special edition is available in four premium finishes: Silk White, Piano Black, Walnut, and the new and exclusive Sand finish. The Sand option adds a warm, elegant character to the range and is designed to blend seamlessly into sophisticated living spaces.

The Canton Reference 9 GS Edition is available immediately from authorised Canton Reference dealers. Recommended retail prices per pair are €5,000 in Piano Black, Silk White, and Sand, and €5,500 in Walnut.
