// Wilson Benesch Unveils GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm at HIGH END Munich 2025
Wilson Benesch: Leading the New Era in Analogue
Wilson Benesch is proud to announce the launch of the GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm, the latest addition to the company’s acclaimed GMT® Analogue Collection. Evolving from the armwand variant provided with the iconic GMT® One System Turntable introduced in 2023, the GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm is a standalone tonearm system, developed for compatibility with the Dohmann Helix One Mk3 turntable.
The GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm will make its global debut at HIGH END Munich 2025, in partnership with Dohmann Audio — on live demonstration in Hall 4, F-001.
// Advanced Materials, Superior Performance
A triumph of engineering and material science, the GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm features a single-piece, moulded carbon fibre armtube reinforced with a graphene epoxy matrix. Drawing upon decades of research and in collaboration with The FEMTO Institute (France) and Sheffield Hallam University, the structure combines uni-directional carbon fibre, quadruple helix construction, and a Rohacell sandwich core—resulting in a tonearm with exceptional stiffness and class-leading damping.
In tonearm design, damping and stiffness are critical to accurate signal reproduction. Much like a Stradivarius violin’s materials and shape define its character, the GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm ensures it transcribes rather than colours the musical signal. Its geometry mitigates sympathetic vibrations, enabling the cartridge stylus to extract information with absolute precision.
// Built on Heritage
Wilson Benesch’s use of advanced composites began in 1989 with the development of the A.C.T. One Tonearm. Subsequent research under the EU SSUCHY Project confirmed the original tonearm’s design principles, including:
The hyperbolic curve geometry for material efficiency and strength
0/90° fibre orientation for maximum torsional stiffness and energy dissipation
Monolithic construction to eliminate reflective energy boundaries between parts
This legacy forms the backbone of the GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm, refined with cutting-edge tools and scientific validation.
// SLS Titanium: Inspired by Nature
The counterbalance and pivot structures of the GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm are realised using Selective Laser Sintered (SLS) titanium, developed in collaboration with Dr. James Hunt (University of Sheffield), the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Renishaw PLC, and Professor Morvan Ouise (FEMTO Institute).
Inspired by natural lattice geometries found in human anatomy, Wilson Benesch used generative design tools to create internal tessellated titanium structures that:
Maximise stiffness while minimising weight
Deliver exceptional damping, aided by un-sintered powdered titanium to absorb vibrational energy
Optimise the centre of gravity for mechanical precision
These cutting-edge, registered designs could not be produced through traditional manufacturing methods.
// STAGE One
Wilson Benesch has adapted the innovative “over-arm” STAGE One design—originally developed for the GMT® One System Turntable—to integrate seamlessly with the Dohmann Helix One Mk3 Turntable. The STAGE One allows the tonearm wire to be terminated into a copper-shielded structure positioned less than an inch from the end of the GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm. By doing so, it minimises the exposure of the delicate, unshielded signal path to radio frequency interference (RFI), ensuring the signal is protected at its most vulnerable point.
Mechanically, the design delivers further benefits. The tonearm functions as a highly sensitive measurement device, with its stylus tracing groove modulations at the nanometre scale. Any mechanical force imposed by the tonearm wire can interfere with this precision. By positioning the STAGE One directly over the tonearm pivot, all mechanical forces from the wire are eliminated. This structurally integrated approach removes compromises, enhances mechanical isolation, and reinforces signal integrity at the critical point of signal extraction.
// Premium Finish Options
Like the armwand version, Wilson Benesch will produce the GRAVITON® Ti Tonearm in three finishes. The tonearm will ship in Matt Titanium as standard, with Polished Silver and Polished Gold upgrade options across all titanium components.
