YG Acoustics has officially introduced its most ambitious project to date: Gemini, the flagship model of the company’s new Ultimate series. Representing the culmination of years of meticulous research and engineering, Gemini aims to redefine what is possible in loudspeaker design—both technically and emotionally.
Developed over a period of three years, Gemini is the product of extensive innovation at YG’s R&D centre in Cambridge, UK. The facility is home to some of the world’s most advanced acoustic and vibration testing equipment, coupled with cutting-edge simulation software. The team’s research included a deep exploration into how the human ear perceives musical sound, enabling faster and more accurate development of next-generation audio technologies.
Standing over two meters tall, each Gemini loudspeaker features a symmetrical seven-driver array anchored by a custom-designed sub-bass driver. This configuration includes YG’s newly developed lattice tweeter, flanked by 15cm midrange, 18cm mid, and 26cm bass drivers arranged in mirrored pairs above and below the tweeter. This symmetry is more than aesthetic—it offers precise phase alignment across the full frequency spectrum, creating a near-perfect point-source experience with exceptional clarity and immersive imaging.
Gemini’s cabinet construction reflects YG’s signature commitment to materials and detail. It incorporates three layers of specially selected aluminium alloy, interleaved with precision damping materials to control resonance. The front baffle is crafted from solid aerospace-grade aluminium, heat-treated and CNC-machined to tolerances within a thousandth of a millimeter. Internally, the structure uses bracing and diffuser/absorber elements to eliminate internal reflections and coloration.
The external crossover network is another standout feature. Built on a custom multilayer PCB material with superior dielectric and damping properties, each circuit is milled from extra-thick, high-purity copper and engineered for ultra-low distortion and minimal interference. The crossovers are housed in dedicated polymer enclosures to prevent electromagnetic interactions, further enhancing sonic transparency.
YG Acoustics has designed Gemini in three distinct versions to accommodate different system architectures and listening preferences:
- Gemini Passive: A five-way, eight-driver fully passive loudspeaker using an external crossover. Supports one to five amplification channels per tower.
- Gemini Sub: Incorporates a four-way passive speaker system combined with an active, time-aligned 1kW sub-bass amplifier.
- Gemini Live: A fully integrated solution with external audiophile-grade amplification and advanced DSP crossover per channel. Includes a centralized Live Controller with Roon-Ready streaming and full digital/analogue connectivity via glass optical fiber.
