Atohm, the renowned French loudspeaker manufacturer, has refreshed its Sirocco product line with significant upgrades. The new range includes the two-way monitor Sirocco 1.24, the 2.5-way floorstanding Sirocco 2.24, and the 2.5-way center channel Sirocco Center, all showcasing improved drivers, enclosures, and crossovers. Buyers can select from multiple color options to match their aesthetic preferences. Each new model has been completely redesigned, resulting in substantial enhancements in both technical specifications and audio performance. These advancements lead to remarkable linearity and dynamics that stand out in their price category, ensuring minimal distortion and excellent power handling. The speaker cabinets, constructed from 18mm-thick MDF, now incorporate Atohm’s innovative SWD (Standing Wave Damper) technology, which leverages a laminar absorption cavity and a downward-facing bass reflex port to effectively eliminate resonance, offering clear high-bass and low-midrange frequencies without distortion. The development of the drivers in the Sirocco lineup, achieved through an intense three-year research effort, has led to noteworthy specifications: 20mm tweeters with lightweight silk domes, optimized die-cast aluminum waveguides, high-quality neodymium magnets, and specially designed sound-absorbing chambers.
The woofers feature a custom-made paper cone, rubber surrounds enhanced with LDS technology, and high-performance ferrite magnets. All drivers within this series are meticulously tuned to a precision of 0.25dB, resulting in a refined soundstage marked by tonal accuracy, extreme linearity, and a powerful, clean bass response free from artifacts. Each unit is manufactured with craft excellence at Atohm's facilities in France, allowing for superior quality control through extensive testing processes for every driver before assembly. The Sirocco speakers also feature crossover filters built with high-quality components, utilizing simple 6 dB/octave slopes paired with impedance correction circuits, facilitating sonic precision while ensuring compatibility with various electronic systems.
The shallow slopes support the time-dependent, phase-optimized drivers, and the crossover is designed with a switchable three-position attenuator to allow users to adjust the treble response in 2 dB increments, catering to personal tastes and the acoustic traits of their environment. For technical specifications, the Sirocco 1.24 has a frequency range of 46 Hz to 25 kHz, with a sensitivity of 88 dB and a nominal impedance of six ohms. It measures 180 x 345 x 260 mm and weighs seven kilograms. Similarly, the Sirocco 2.24, also with a sensitivity of 88 dB, offers a frequency response of 40 Hz to 25 kHz and a nominal impedance of six ohms, measuring 216 x 990 x 256 mm with a weight of 14.9 kilograms.
